Friends who pressure friends into doing unhealthy things are bad friends. Plain and simple. While it can be hard to find new friends, it may be worth it in the end. Smoking is not cool, nor will it ever be. It sounds like you know what to do in this situation. You may have a bigger influence on your friends than you think. Try positive peer pressure.
