IDFY’s Drug Testing Philosophy

We feel that offering parents drug-testing kits is a way to help them become partners in prevention. Having these kits at home will help parents start a conversation with their children about drugs and alcohol. Because Idaho Drug Free Youth is a student program and is joined voluntarily, we hope that drug-testing is never a way to catch a student doing the wrong thing. The drug-testing program is meant to validate a student’s positive decision to remain drug and alcohol free. Likewise, the drug tests we offer should never be used punitively. Knowing that their parents have these in their homes may provide students with a ready-made excuse not to use drugs or alcohol.
